Workshop: Build a Multi-Layer Hologram for Jewelry

An Experimental Lab for Light, Depth & Wearable Alchemy

550 US dollars
172 E. 2nd Street, NY, NY 10009

Class Description:

Ready to push holography into the third (and maybe fourth?) dimension? In this 3-hour deep dive, we’ll explore multi-layered DCG holography techniques to craft a piece of holographic jewelry that bends light, flips depth, and reveals a world inside a sliver of glass. This isn’t your typical jewelry workshop—we’re playing with light as a material, using gelatin, lasers, and sharp blades to cut and collage holographic space. You’ll create layered holograms that combine both real and pseudoscopic (depth-reversed) images, and carve into each layer to build a design that shifts and reveals as you move it. You’ll learn: - How to prepare and coat glass plates with light-sensitive DCG emulsion - The ins and outs of multi-layer exposures using a 488nm laser - How to selectively cut and remove parts of each layer with a razor blade (yes, it’s as fun as it sounds) - Techniques to laminate, seal, and protect your hologram for durability and wearable use By the end, you’ll walk away with a one-of-a-kind layered hologram built for jewelry—and a deeper understanding of how to sculpt with light itself. **Optional Add-on:** Want your piece cold-worked into a finished pendant or accessory? I can take care of that for an additional fee. **What to bring:** Bring a few small objects (around 2"x3" or less) you’d like to immortalize in holographic form, or pick from the curated collection I’ll have on hand. Let your weird ideas shine—this is where science meets light and magic.
